Domestic Support Assistant (Aged Care)

About the role:
We have exciting opportunities available for experienced and passionate Domestic Support Workers to become part of our rapidly growing Aged Care program. Our Domestic Support Workers work on a rotating roster model which can include evening, weekend and public holiday shifts. These positions are for casual on-call appointments to provide in-home domestic chores to our Aged Care Clients to help them to maintain their capacity to manage everyday activities.
Key duties:
- Provide assistance in the home with general house cleaning, including dishwashing, vacuuming, bed making, dusting etc.
- Conduct unaccompanied shopping (delivered to home) and bill paying.
- Provide linen services including clothes washing and ironing.
- Assist with meal preparation.
- Demonstrating and encouraging the use of techniques or specific aids and equipment to improve the person’s capacity for self-management, build confidence and support client participation where appropriate.
Essential Criteria
- Demonstrated experience working in a similar role.
- Current and valid driver’s licence and access to a fully insured vehicle.
- Current and valid First Aid certificate or willingness to obtain one.
- Cleared National Criminal History Check.
- Proof of eligibility to work in Australia is required.
Desirable Criteria
- Bilingual in a community language.
- Demonstrated experience and skills working with aged, disabled or people living with dementia and understanding the issues they face.
- Demonstrated capacity to engage people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

As the successful applicant you will be responsible for providing assistance to consumers of our Aged Care Services program with in home individualised support in activities of daily living and self-care tasks that help them to maintain appropriate standards of hygiene and grooming. We are looking for people who are passionate about delivering person centred services, are flexible, caring and have good interpersonal skills.
Key duties:
- Assistance with self-care.
- Assistance with client self-administration of medicine.
- Support with daily living tasks such as bathing, toileting, dressing, grooming, getting in and out of bed and moving about the house.
- Demonstrating and encouraging the use of techniques to improve the consumer’s capacity for self-management and building confidence in the use of equipment or aids, such as a bath seat or handheld shower hose.
Essential Criteria
- Certificate III in Aged Care or equivalent.
- Current and valid driver’s licence and access to a fully insured vehicle.
- Current and valid First Aid certificate.
- Cleared National Criminal History Check.
- Demonstrated experience and skills working with aged, disabled or people living with dementia and understanding the issues they face.
- Demonstrated capacity to engage people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Proof of eligibility to work in Australia is required.
Desirable Criteria
- Bicultural background and fluency in a language other than English.

DISABILITY SUPPORT WORKERS

Focus Connect (MDSI T/A) is a not-for-profit charity that offers practical help and support services to people who people who are disadvantaged and marginalised. Focus Connect seeks to ensure that our organisation and our services are relevant and accessible. Based on an integrated service delivery system Focus Connect's programs are specifically tailored through three service areas: Aged, Community and Disability.
Focus Connect is recruiting Disability Support Workers for its NDIS disability services in community access, in-home supports and Short Term Accommodation. You will be involved in a growing quality service that provides NDIS support services to people with a disability in the Macarthur and South West Sydney region.
We are seeking experienced disability support workers who have qualifications in disability services and/or experience as a Carer of a person with a disability.
Please note: Our Disability Services are delivered on a 24/7 roster model which includes sleepovers, weekend and public holiday shift. These positions are for Casual on-call appointments to provide in-home domestic assistance, personal care and supporting community access or in a short term accommodation setting.
Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record and Working with Children Check.

Essential Criteria
- Experience working with complex and challenging behaviours including restrictive practice participants.
- Certificate III in Community Welfare, or similar, or willingness to complete this within first 2 years of employment.
- Current Senior First Aid Certificate.
- Current unrestricted Driver Licence and access to a reliable fully insured vehicle.
- A commitment to supporting and promoting the individual needs, skills, abilities and personal goals of people with a disability.
- The ability to develop a positive relationships with service participants and to support their Individual Personal Goals.
- Good communication skills, including ability to build rapport, effective listening and empathy.
- The ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality.
- Problem solving and conflict management skills.
- Demonstrated reliability, flexibility and a positive attitude.
- Understanding and commitment to the importance of multicultural in the context of our Australian society.
